Support and Resources for Learners

Support and Resources for Learners

At Nexford University, advising is key to learners’ success where learners benefit from a combination of technological and personal support. Nexford Success Advisors utilize technology to assist learners with their academic planning, helping them determine which academic programs and pathways best align with their post-graduate job and career ambitions; track their academic progress; provide them with immediate and substantive feedback on course assessments; and provide them with strategies for overcoming academic difficulties.

Technology is just one aspect of the University’s approach to learner success. Learners are also supported by a network of advisors and mentors, including Nexford faculty and staff, who offer a wide range of hands-on assistance. The goal of Nexford advising is to eliminate obstacles, address learners' questions and concerns promptly, help them maximize their online learning experience, provide personalized and ongoing guidance, keep them informed of all available options, and equip them with the tools needed to make confident, well-informed decisions.

Nexford Success Advisors take a highly personalized approach to advising. They don’t wait for learners to reach out; instead, they actively monitor learners’ progress and intervene when necessary. Success Advisors do not only work with learners in distress; they also aim to enhance the overall learning experience for all Nexford learners and help them get the most from their Nexford education.

Success Advisors

SSuccess Advisors are available to Nexford learners at all times, providing continuous support through email, chat, and video conferencing services. Their primary role is to assist enrolled learners with advising matters such as goal setting, time management, study skills, creating study plans, and navigating Nexford’s online resources.

They also provide personal support by checking in with learners who may be experiencing difficulties and by taking a holistic approach to advising. Success Advisors have access to data analytics related to learner progress, enabling them to identify and assist learners facing academic challenges such as unsatisfactory progress or low engagement in coursework.

In addition to serving as a resource learners can proactively reach out to, Success Advisors also monitor academic progress and, in coordination with course faculty, implement appropriate outreach or intervention plans. Nexford University has a dedicated group of Success Advisors who guide learners from orientation through graduation.

Learners are encouraged to reach out to the advising team by emailing success@nexford.edu, booking an advising session or reaching out through the advising team's official WhatsApp number: (202) 660-1426.

Evaluation/Enhancement of Advising

Nexford University is dedicated to maintaining an efficient and effective advising model that evolves to meet the diverse needs of learners across different markets. Success Advisors gather feedback through satisfaction surveys and focus groups, using this data to refine advisement practices and enhance the recruitment, training, and professional development of advisors. This approach ensures advisors are well-prepared to deliver personalized support while addressing regional characteristics and exceeding learner expectations.

Learner Orientation

All new enrollees of Nexford University are strongly encouraged to complete NXU Orientation before they begin their first course. During NXU Orientation, learners will:

  1. Learn how to navigate the Canvas learning platform

  2. Understand the structure of Nexford’s courses and programs, academic policies, and the Learner Code of Conduct

  3. Learn about the various types of advising support that are available to them

  4. Learn strategies for succeeding in online learning at Nexford University

Live Advising Session

Upon completing the orientation, learners are encouraged to attend a live advising session led by a Success Advisor. These sessions feature insights from current learners and alumni, who share their experiences and answer questions. Alternatively, learners can schedule a one-on-one meeting with a Success Advisor. Completing the orientation and participating in a live session or one-on-one meeting equips learners to start their first course with confidence.

Parents

Nexford University’s Success Advisors provide ongoing support to learners throughout their academic journey. The University regards learners as responsible participants in their own education and recognizes that parents often play an important role in supporting them in their pursuit of higher education.

To safeguard learner privacy, Nexford adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). If learners wish to share their educational records with their parents, they must submit a FERPA consent form through the Privacy Settings page in their myNXU Profile. This form authorizes the Office of the Registrar to release a learner’s educational records to designated third parties, including parents.

Learners who are self-funded should complete the fields under the “For Self-Funded Learners” section of the form to allow the release of their records.
